What actually transfers in a Google Podcasts migration, and what does not

The practical migration path is a straightforward OPML export-and-import: Google Podcasts, where still accessible, or a browser extension that reads its subscription data can produce an OPML file, and importing that file here rebuilds your subscription list as a batch rather than resubscribing to each show individually. This part is genuinely quick once you have the exported file in hand, usually a couple of minutes for a library of even a few dozen shows.

What does not transfer is anything Google Podcasts stored outside the subscription list itself: playback position on episodes you had partway finished, listening history, and any starred or saved episodes are tied to Google's own account data and are not part of a standard OPML export, so those will not carry over automatically. Expect to restart from the beginning of your current episode on any show you were partway through, and to rebuild any starred or favorited list manually inside your new library.

Once subscriptions are imported, the app rebuilds each show from its live RSS feed going forward, so new episodes after the import continue publishing normally, and older back-catalog episodes are still there to browse just as they were in Google Podcasts, since RSS feeds themselves are not affected by which app is reading them. The one exception is a show that has since removed itself from public RSS entirely, which no replacement app can recover since the feed itself no longer exists.

After the import, downloads, the queue, variable speed, and cross-device sync all work the same as they would for a subscription you added directly rather than imported. There are no app-inserted ads in the player, and the optional Premium Podcast Brain is available afterward for eligible transcript-backed episodes if you want AI search once your library has moved over, though it starts building your listening history from scratch on this app rather than importing any prior listening record from Google Podcasts.
